Grandma Flo's Homemade Chocolate Cake

INGREDIENTS

CAKE
1 cup chocolate (ground)
2 ¼ cup flour (sifted)
1 ¼ cup milk
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup butter
½ cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
FROSTING
1 lb powdered sugar
1/3 cup shortening
½ cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 drops food coloring.

PREPARATION


Heat oven to 350 degrees.

CAKE:
In a medium bowl, sift chocolate, flour, baking powder and salt together. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar; adding eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Fold in the vanilla, then the sifted mix alternately with the milk.

FROSTING:
Fold powdered sugar and shortening together, blending well. Slowly add in the milk, beating until fluffy. Add in vanilla and a few drops of food coloring; any color desired.

Notes:
Crush chocolate bar, butterscotch or peppermint to top frosting.

COOKING


When ingredients are well blended, pour into an 8in. square cake pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Frost and sprinkle with crushed candy.
