Grandma Flo’s Cabbage Rolls

INGREDIENTS

2 cabbages
1 ½ lbs of ground beef (lean)
1 cup rice (washed)
2 tsp allspice
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 can tomatoes w/basil (large)

PREPARATION


Cabbage:
Boil cabbage for about 10 to 15 min. or until the leaves start to come apart. Do not overcook cabbage. Drain and set aside.

Meat Mixture:
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, rice, allspice, salt, pepper and juice from the can of tomatoes.

Take out one large cabbage leaf at a time and put 2 Tbsp of the meat mixture on it. Roll into a cylinder and close the sides.

COOKING


Place each cabbage roll in a large pot creating layers from the bottom up. On the second layer, place 2 or 3 tomatoes from the can; continue these steps for every 2 layers. When finished, pour in the remaining tomatoes from the can.

Fill the pot with water reaching the top of the pot. Let water come to a boil, lower flame; let simmer for about 1 hour, or until done.
